The threat of severe storms loomed a day before the 22nd Annual Benjamin-Ross Memorial 5K. On race day, however, conditions were not bad at all! Due to road construction on Wood Street, we had a slightly modified course this year. Our registration and awards table were set up in front of the Cap Paine Gym at Woodbury High school. By 8:00 we were set up and ready for registration. The crowds of runners and walkers really started arriving around 8:30-9:00 am. The music was playing and fellow runners greeted each other at this annual Woodbury tradition. Finally, it was 9:25, almost time to start.
The rain has held off and it was time for the National Anthem which was sung beautifully by Spike Abrams, a member of Woodbury’s American Legion Post. Then everyone headed around the corner to Wood street for the start of the race. Other than the start and finish, and an extra left turn around Bell Lake, it was the same course as the Fun Run. New arrow signs and plenty of course marshals guided the runners through the course. The race finished on a fairly steep incline back at the gym. Marquis Cox was our overall winner with an amazing time of 16:08.2!
Congrats to all of our runner and walker participants. Just a great day all around. Many thanks to our great RRCW volunteers for your help in organizing this event! Also, thanks to the Woodbury Police department who helped our runners safely cross the busy intersections. See you in August at our Hot Run in the Summertime!
Lots of Photos on Facebook. Thanks to John at Keyphoto for the great pictures!
